The Tourist wakes up in The Hotel “Rose’s Lime Juice” to the sound of The Hotel Owner knocking on his door. It is not yet. 9:00 AM and his head is pounding; he has a major hangover and is feeling rather queasy. He stumbles out of bed in his boxer shorts and opens the door just a crack. The Hotel Owner, stretching her neck to look behind him as if trying to see who else is in the room, hands him a bill. The Tourist takes the bill and looks at it through his blurry eyes. He notices that there are multiple charges for Tanqueray Gin. Squinting slightly, a look of confusion settles over his face and he looks The Hotel Owner in her eyes and raises his eyebrows as if to say, “what is this?” “This is your bill from last night” she says in a matter of fact fashion. “But what are all these charges?” asks The Tourist. “These are from your evening last night, with Betty.” The Hotel Owner replies. “Betty?” asks The Tourist, now even more confused. “Betty Davisson. You were together all evening. She said that as you are staying here, you would cover the bill.” The Tourist stares at the bill in disbelief.
The Tourist’s head is spinning as images from the night before swirl around in his mind, and we hear a thousand voices from the Waterfront asking, “Who is Betty Davisson?”
The Tourist stumbles back into bed and passes out.
